Hack This Game!

A couple people have asked about making hacks or supplements for Patchwork World, so I wanted to say: PLEASE DO IT! I'd love nothing more than to buy what you make. I'd love to be attributed or mentioned in your supplement, but I'm not gonna come after you if you don't. You can consider the game to be CC-BY 3.0.*

If you're not sure how to start, consider the following.

• The games mentioned in Patchwork's Appendix N, such as 6E by Jared Sinclair, Pasión de las Pasiones by Brandon Leon-Gambetta, Sagas of the Icelanders by Gregor Vuga, and Apocalypse World (and all the other PbtA resources on its site) by D. Vincent Baker & Meguey Baker.

Draw inspiration from your favorite books or games! I did. Just be aware that you don't need to appropriate things from other cultures to make your game feel strange; I assure you that people from your own culture have been making weird things for centuries.

Patchwork World was gestating in me when I wrote Reading the Apocalypse and Game Genie Apocalypse. They're collections of moves inspired by my favorite novels and videogames. I've put them on sale for anyone who owns Patchwork.

*It feels very funny to be an authority and telling people what they can and can't do with this game; I barely feel like I own it in the first place. I put a lot of myself into the game, but it's equally inspired by the people I've played with, the books I've read, and the tips I've gotten from others. I'll always feel more like a curator than an author.
